Eating out in Berwick Upon Tweed Northumberland Summer 2013?
Our lovely, historic town is steeped in nearly a thousand years of history. Scotland and England fought for centuries to take control of this rugged border town. First Queen Mary and then Queen Elizabeth 1st built the amazing fortifications that still surround the old town today in 1558 nearly 500 hundred years ago.
A short but fascinating walk can take about half an hour right around the walls. Amazing and often deserted beaches stretch away to Holy Island in the south, you can see this view on the bridge called Scotsgate when walking around the top end of the town walls.
Visit Cocklawburn or Cheswick beaches on sunny days and you may see a few families enjoying golden sands and clean waters. But there is sure to be a quiet spot for you around the next corner.
After that you will have built up a thirst and maybe fancy a bite to eat. We would encourage you to bring your family to Berwick for a stunning Fortes ice cream, or perhaps something for lunch/dinner!
Berwick now boasts some high quality eateries like the Queens Head, Magna Tandoori, Villa Spice, the Malting's Kitchen, Royal Garden (Excellent Chinese and Asian), Audella, El Taperio (tapas) and our own Foxtons Wine Bar & Restaurant.
As new owners of Foxtons we are keen to promote our town and our competitors to encourage visitors to visit the area. Our aim is to provide quality food and good prices. We don't "ping and ding" or microwave pre packed foods, everything is made from local ingredients and our suppliers deliver locally grown meats, shellfish and vegetables every day.
You can be sure our 3 chefs love to work here, the ingredients help deliver taste that cannot be found in the large chain outlets with prepared and centrally cooked food. Sometimes you will have to wait a few moments longer for your dish, but the mouthwatering tastes will make it worth it. Meanwhile, enjoy a wine from our range of 50 wines and fizz.
And that goes for many of the great restaurants in Berwick, high quality food served by friendly local people who love their job and their town.
While away a day or an afternoon in Foxtons, with coffees, Pimms, fizz or a cold Peroni; enjoy local mussels served with style and taste. Have a 21 day aged steak grown near Berwick. Here is an example of one of our lovingly prepared dishes. We look forward to greeting you when you visit.
